Well Here we go.....
A little background check for those that dont know !
I have decided to study abroad in Entre Rios, Argentina for 8 months to learn the Spanish language and Culture. I am studying at the Universidad Adventista Del Plata (UAP) in the Adventist Colleges Abroad Program, otherwise known as A.C.A. I live about 6 hours from the country's capital Buenos Aires.
Semana 1
This was my first week in Arg. I was really excited but kind of sad because the weekend before i left for Arg. i hurt my foot so i was limping for the first few weeks. =( When i arrived at the airport i realized that i had a lot of bags lol !! an no cart to move them. So i had to wait for the airport to bring me a cart for these bags. My flight was good i just slept most of the time.
We got to the school and i quickly realized that Argentinans love to eat and they like to eat LATE!!!! we had dinner at like 10 pm at night lol
I first met my roomates and also had a quick relization that hardly ANYONE ONE SPEAKS ENGLISH !!! Maybe i was dumb to think that they would!!! My roommates are very understanding though and they try really hard to understand me. But when push comes to shove.....we resort to GOOGLE translate!!!
That first week i made so many friends!! Mainly because my cousin came to Argentina a year before me but on my own as well. On the weekend we (Rachel, Ray, and other friends) went to a new friend's house for a Sabbath afternoon bike ride on this really cool looking two seater bike...i had so much fun!!!
Semana 2
To begin this week we took our first trip to PARANA!!!! the capital of our state. It was on a sunday. When we got there not many shops were open so we first went to a pastry shop we found....and ate some REALLY good Pastries....Argentina has really good pastries! Then we went to a restaurant then headed to the cine (movie theater) there we watched Shrek 3 (in spanish lol) and on our way out the owners of the cine said we can stay and see another movie for free. So we watched Toy Story 3....in spanish lol !!!
During the week we continued to make a lot of friends and started orentiation week. This week we just recieved alot of information that would help us through the year and help us sign up for classes. Then on thursday we had a reception. At the reception to my surprise I learned that my old spanish teacher from Mt. Aetna Elementary school will be one of my teachers while im here!!! I was so excited!! Also i ran into some people i knew from Maryland that moved back to Argentina from the states. One of my old elementary school classmate, my teachers grandson, attends the Medical School here.
Semana 3-4
These weeks i was (and still am) getting adjusted to the UAP. There are many holidays here and on those days i ususally take the advantage to get out of town !
I've visited Parana for the Dia Del Estudiantes (day of students) with my roommate and her friends. We went to the coast, ate cookies and drank mate (popular traditional Argentinean drink) in the park. After we went to a Cumbia concert.
Another day trip i took was on a random holiday in the middle of the week lol. We decided to go to another city called Santa Fe which is about 2 hrs by bus from where we are. We went to the mall and just chilled for the day.
And the most recent trip was my Birthday weekend !!! October 1-3 !!
about 15 people went to a beautiful city named Rosario! We stayed in a Hostel. We went out to eat, visited some monuments, went to the park, and had a bbq on the roof of the hostel (best food i've ever had...sorry mom lol) my friend Andres cooked....he can really cook. I told the guys who were there to take note lol !!! Then to my surprise, after going to the mall to eat and chill, they brought me up on the roof of the hostel and brought up this super delicious strawberry cake with HUGE candles and sang Happy Birthday to me!!!! It was a great weekend.
Well today ....right now im looking out my window watching the sun set getting listening to the piegon out side my window getting ready for another weekend, another Sabbath, and on Monday....Yup you guessed it ....another holiday !!!!
